This holiday season, step into a mystical winter experience right here at Prudential Center!
Beginning December 4th and through December 17, South Garden transforms into Winter Garden featuring a celestial choreography of synchronized lights, sound, and reflective sculptures that shimmer and shift with each passing moment.
Once night falls, explore this outdoor immersive light and sound installation, which comes to life through state-of-the-art lighting towers and custom-composed soundscapes to create a mesmerizing “ballet” of motion and color that invites visitors to pause and appreciate the magic of winter nights.
Before your visit, learn more about this vibrant holiday experience from Ryan Edwards, Artist & co-founder of MASARY Studios – the masterminds behind this unique audio-visual experience. MASARY Studios is a transdisciplinary artist collective reconsidering environments through site-specific installations using sound, light, interactivity, and performance. The Fort Point, Boston-based studio was founded in 2015.
The courtyard at Prudential Center is actually quite dark, which is pretty special for a space tucked so deeply in the urban landscape. Working in this outdoor space drew us towards an idea of a reflective winter garden – an installation arranged as an organic field of mirror-balls, activated by sound and light.
We hope the artwork affirms and extends moments of reflection for the public. People are crisscrossing the Center for so many reasons – we hope this installation provides some common ground for everyone to pause, reflect, wonder, maybe have just a couple deeper breaths.
We love finding interesting and unexpected ways to intervene; gently disrupt the regular paths, reconsider a space, surprise the public into fresh perspectives. Creating these interventions, hopefully, impacts our habits, our routines and our expectations – we love gently “shaking up the ant farm” and thereby encouraging new ideas, pathways, relationships and more.
The sound and light score is in three movements, and is in many instances very tightly synchronized. As you walk around the perimeter, patterns in the sound and light will emerge. Listen for chord changes, melodic passages and rhythmical patterns that are expressed in light; think of it like a dance.
Look for ways that this sound and light artwork connects with the mirrors in the courtyard, and just maybe the sculpture becomes more ephemeral, and the sound and light become more sculptural.
Don’t miss this celestial experience in the middle of Back Bay! Winter Garden lights up from 4PM to 9PM and can be accessed via the entry next to Blue Bottle.
