One is using vegetables to save the world. Another brings hand-crafted pralines straight from Switzerland. And the third aims to be an oasis — and theme-party spot! — for young families. Let’s get to know the latest newcomers at the Prudential Center.
Before food trucks became all the rage and some businesses adjusted their mission to address climate change, Clover Food Lab was doing both. Ayr Muir started out in 2008 with a calling to serve “unforgettable vegetables” to “make the world a better place.”
Fast-forward 13 years, and the MIT alum and environmentalist is in charge of a burgeoning empire. The latest grand opening of the cult restaurant — the 13th for those who are counting — at the Pru signals Muir has indeed succeeded in creating plant-based food so good that people can’t wait to come back for more. The Pru restaurant is the largest Clover yet and, Muir says, much has changed over the years.
“I’m grinning… I know we’re still at the vanguard. Not everybody understands that we need to reduce meat consumption to stop global warming… But many do. And we’re working on it. We haven’t fixed it yet. It’s a giant undertaking. But we’re putting our weight into fixing these problems, and more and more are joining us.”
Clover Food Lab has been a trailblazer, not only when it comes to kicking off the food truck revolution. The use of compostable packaging and popularity of pour-over coffee programs both trace their beginnings in the Boston area to the Clover forward-thinkers.
Amid accolades and recognition in the national news media, Clover has also built a following of raving fans that can’t get enough of the locally sourced, seasonal ingredients. They love dishes like the Chickpea Fritter Sandwich and Impossible Meatball Platter. (“Over 100 Italians agree: These meatballs are better than Nonna’s.”) They’re made with soy, coconut, potato, and heme, and then folded in fresh garlic, parsley, milk-soaked pita, red sauce, and more.
Come to Hynes Court to discover what the buzz is all about.
From cocoa farms in Trinidad, Ecuador, Brazil, Madagascar, and Ghana come the ingredients that have made the chocolate of Läderach a worldwide sensation. And this month, the Swiss chocolatier will find a home at the Prudential Center. Läderach connects the rainforests to the Swiss Alps to find the flavors that inspire “sweet moments of pleasure for you in everyday life.”
Every piece is crafted in the chocolate capital of Switzerland, often by hand, and brought straight to Läderach shelves across the globe. At the Pru, you find Läderach in the Back Bay arcade next to Kate Spade. You might as well grab a basket because how could you ever pick just a single bite?
There are, for example, best sellers like FrischSchoggi Hazelnut Dark, dark chocolate blended with large roasted and caramelized hazelnuts from Piedmont. There is Pralines Classic, an assortment of 24 different flavors like walnut marzipan, le noir, and moccatine. And who could pass up the Läderach Grand Cru Carré, wafer-thin pieces designed to bring “intense pure chocolate enjoyment” from five provenances?
For the holiday season, pick a tabletop advent calendar, featuring something to delight every chocolate lover every day of the week, for weeks.
Whether you need an Instagram-worthy theme birthday party or an oasis for yourself and your children, welcome to Little Lovage Club. Consider the soon-to-be-open spot at the Prudential Center a beacon for young families in Boston. Located adjacent to The Handle Bar and Post Office, Lovage features soaring ceilings, an abundance of natural light, and amenities to make the day of young and old.
Owner Alana Rusin was once a client herself and assumed ownership during the pandemic. That feeling of being supported and understood during the “wild ride” of parenthood is a legacy she intends to carry on.
“I’m excited and honored to reboot Lovage,” Rusin says. “My dream is to continue to build the most supportive, inclusive community of young families in and around Boston, and to be the premier resource for you as you navigate the 0-5 year stage in the Hub.”
From parent and baby support groups, infant and toddler enrichment classes, parenting workshops, family events, and birthday celebrations, Little Lovage Club offers it all.
